Kicker reports Stuttgart netted only €10 million on Sosa deal

The move of VfB Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa to Ajax Amsterdam yesterday was, according to Germany's Kicker Magazine, completed for only €10 million.
Borna Sosa's decision to continue his professional endeavors together alongside former VfB Stuttgart sporting director Sven Mislintat led to a hastily arranged transfer yesterday. George Moissidis - the Stuttgart correspondent for Germany's Kicker magazine - reports that the Swabians were content enough to let their disaffected player depart for €10 million. More could have been fetched for the fullback, once valued at around €23 million, but the Württembergers found the final solution amenable.

Sosa had congenitally been linked with a move away from the club. The Zagreb native ultimately saw his estimated market worth decline from its peak down to €12 million in the latest transfermarkt update. The now 25-year-old never re-attained the production numbers (mostly in terms of assists) he furnished whilst working together with former VfB striker Sasa Kalajdzic. Moissidis reports that Fabian Wohlgemuth, Alexander Wehrle, and the tester of the club administrative team were happy to complete the move.

The player's heart no longer appeared in it.

"Borna has told us several times in recent months that he wants to move and is now taking this step after five years," Wohlgemuth noted in a club-released statement, "From a sporting point of view, it was a very hard compromise to meet his wishes, but in the end we agreed to it because of Borna's services to VfB Stuttgart. We wish him all the best for his future."

"I have experienced five wonderful years here at VfB that I will never forget," Sosa himself added, "So many wonderful memories of this time remain. I am very happy that I was allowed to be part of such a great club. It was a time with a lot of emotions. Thanks go to the fantastic fans, who are among the best in the Bundesliga. I wish VfB and its fans all the best for the future."
