Jurendic confirms administrative talks on Maaßen's future: "More should be possible."

FC Augsburg sporting director Marinko Jurendic issued a statement from the WWK Arena on Sunday confirming that there will be concrete talks about the future of FCA trainer Enrico Maaßen in the coming days.

Following up on a statement issued in a post-match interview yesterday, FC Augsburg sporting director Marinko Jurendic addressed journalists from the WWK Arena on Sunday. After just two wins in the last 19 competitive fixtures, it does appear as if Enrico Maaßen's job as Augsburg's head-coach is hanging on by a thread.

Maaßen's Fuggerstädter have won just one of their seven league fixtures thus far this season and are hovering just above the relegation zone on five points in 15th place. The Bavarian Swabians have already been eliminated from Germany's domestic cup following an opening round loss against SpVgg Unterhaching. Set-piece play in the most recent match appeared especially poor.

"We have to take time to discuss this smartly," Jurendic said on Sunday, "You have to look at this carefully. Is it a setback or has the team stopped developing?"

Backed by a new U.S. investor - Boldt Football holdings - Augsburg have spent heavily in the last four transfer windows. Last summer was no exception. Jurendic's statement seemed to suggest that the FCA front office felt that Maaßen wasn't bringing the best value out of the roster.

"The bottom line is that it doesn't meet the demands and expectations," Jurendic said, "more should be possible. I think the team has the quality to be able to win a lot of games."
