Five-star Augsburg come from behind in Heidenheim

The final clash of Bundesliga Matchday 8 pitted Heidenheim against Augsburg. After the dismissal of Enrico Maassen, the visitors were hopeful of an upturn in results, but Heidenheim have enjoyed a fine start to life in Germany’s premier competition. Despite the host's quick start, Augsburg would promptly fire five unanswered goals for a 5-2 triumph.

It took Heidenheim 17 minutes to get off the mark today. Jan-Nicklas Beste looked threatening from tip off and it was his delivery that found Adrian Beck. The former redirected the ball into the box for Kleindienst who tapped home. Two minutes later it was 2-0 – Traore linked up with Beste who fired low to the far corner.

However, Augsburg responded on the half hour mark – Philipp Tietz left completely unmarked to beat Kevin Muller all ends up. In a shock turnaround, Augsburg would fire themselves into a 3-2 lead. A quickfire double stunned the hosts into silence. First to strike was Mads Pedersen, followed by Ermedin Demirovic who latched onto Fredrik Jensen’s cross.

Heidenheim looked to restore parity instantly after the interval. USA international Maloney would be denied by Dahmen, while Dinkci blasted wide from the resulting corner. Despite their best attempts it would be Augsburg added their fourth goal. Some slack defending allowed Uduokhai to chest to the net unchallenged much to the annoyance of Heidenheim boss Schmidt.

The game went into a lull of sorts as the final whistle neared. Subs rolled on from the benches in a bid to spark more life into the affair. But it would be Augsburg who added their fifth goal from the penalty spot in the 87th minute. A handball afforded Rexhbecaj the chance to get on the scoresheet which he did emphatically.
