Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Borussia Dortmund preview: Can BVB extend winning run?

Borussia Dortmund will look to claim a fourth consecutive victory in all competitions when they face Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.

Eintracht Frankfurt

After winning once in six competitive matches, Frankfurt have experienced an upturn in fortunes in recent outings. Dino Toppmoller’s side are currently enjoying a three-game winning, which began with a 2-0 home win over newly-promoted Heidenheim. They backed up that result with a 3-1 away victory against Hoffenheim, before they produced a commanding performance in Thursday’s Europa Conference League meeting with HJK. A Éric Junior Dina Ebimbe brace as well as goals from Robin Koch, Omar Marmoush, Tute and Ellyes Skhiri guided die Adler to a commanding 6-0 win over the Finnish champions.

Frankfurt will now turn their focus to a difficult league fixture against Borussia Dortmund. The hosts head into the weekend in seventh position after collecting 13 points from eight matches. Although die Adler are unbeaten in 14 league matches at Deutsche Bank Park, their most recent home defeat took place against Dortmund in October 2022. Having failed to win their last six head-to-head home meetings (D4, L2), Frankfurt will be looking to claim their first home win over die Schwarzgelben since November 2016.

Sebastian Rode and Simon Simoni are ruled out with calf and elbow injuries respectively.

Borussia Dortmund

Like their hosts, Dortmund also enter Sunday’s encounter off the back of a European victory. Felix Nmecha scored the decisive goal to guide Edin Terzic’s side to a narrow 1-0 victory in Wednesday’s Champions League clash. The result represented a third consecutive win in all competitions, ensuring Dortmund take significant momentum into their away meeting with Frankfurt.

Dortmund are currently enjoying a 16-game unbeaten league run, which stretches back to April. Since being held to a 2-2 draw with Heidenheim, die Schwarzgelben have gone on to win five successive league matches, including a 1-0 home win against Werder Bremen in their most recent league outing.

Sunday’s visitors will start the contest three points behind Bayern Munich, who moved to the top of the table with a dominant 8-0 win over Darmstadt on Saturday. With Dortmund set to face Bayern next weekend, they will be determined to go into Der Klassiker level on points with their rivals. Having won each of their last four head-to-head meetings with Frankfurt, Dortmund will be confident of claiming maximum points.
Team News

The visitors are expected to be without the services of Julien Duranville and
Mateu Morey. Terzic has revealed that he will make a late decision on the availability of Emre Can, Julian Brandt and Julian Ryerson.
