Gladbach vs. Werder Bremen preview: Die Fohlen out to prolong unbeaten home run
Borussia Mönchengladbach will look to extend their unbeaten home streak to seven competitive matches when they play host to Werder Bremen on Friday.

While Gladbach may boast an encouraging home record, they experienced a disappointing result in last weekend’s away meeting with Union Berlin. Although Alassane Pléa scored a late consolation, Gladbach became the first team to lose to Union since Darmstadt in August.
After suffering their third defeat in four games (D1), die Fohlen will be pleased to return to home surroundings this weekend. Gladbach, who sit in 10th place, have put together a six-game unbeaten run at Borussia Park (W5, D1), which includes an extra-time victory against Wolfsburg in the DFB-Pokal in their most recent home encounter. While they found the net just once in that cup tie, Gerardo Seoane’s side have scored at least two goals in each of their previous five home league games.
They will be confident of extending that impressive run, having avoided defeat in their last seven games against Bremen at Borussia Park (W4, D3).

Gladbach’s considerable absentee list features Jonas Omlin, Tony Jantschke, Ko Itakura, Stefan Lainer, Lukas Ullrich, Jordan and Hannes Wolf. Meanwhile, Tomáš Čvančara is a doubt due to illness.
Werder Bremen
Bremen have the chance to claim consecutive league victories for the second time in 2023 after they got the better of Augsburg last weekend. Goals from Niklas Stark and Marvin Ducksch guided Bremen to a precious 2-0 victory, bringing an end to their four-game winless run in the Bundesliga.
After claiming their first league win since October 28, Bremen moved up to 12th position, extending their buffer to the bottom three to four points. If Ole Werner’s side are to put more distance between themselves and the relegation zone, they will need to start picking up wins on their travels.
Having taken just one point from their six away league games, Bremen are one of two sides still searching for their first Bundesliga away win of the season. They are also looking to claim their first competitive win at Borussia Park since beating Gladbach 4-3 in the Pokal in December 2015.
