Eberl discusses Bayern's search for Tuchel's successor
At his official presentation as Bayern Munich's board member for sport, Max Eberl gave an insight into what the club is looking for in a new head coach.
Following the announcement that Thomas Tuchel will leave his post as Bayern Munich head coach at the end of the season, the Bavarians are on the hunt for a replacement.
At his first press conference as Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl spoke about his expectations for the club's new coach, saying:
"Of course, he should speak a language that we all speak - so it should be German or English. That's one criterion, but it's not an exclusion. I don't want to limit my choice too much," said Eberl.
"There are candidates, there are very good coaches. Bayern Munich is a great place. Putting this puzzle together - coach, club, ideas, players - is the task for the next few months."
Eberl actually tried to bring Bayern's reported top candidate, current Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, to Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2021.
"He said: 'Max, it's a bit early for me. I need to gain experience as a coach first'. And then he turned me down. It was a very interesting conversation, I really enjoyed it. But that has nothing to do with today," said Eberl.
