Jeremy Toljan intends to return to Borussia Dortmund to fight for his chance when his loan deal with Celtic runs out at the end of this season.

"I still have three years left of my contract with Dortmund, so I'm assuming that I'll play for BVB again. I'll take on the competition and try to get back into the team," Toljan said in an interview with Goal and Spox.

The right-back was sent on loan in January in the search for more first-team action as he hadn't made a single appearance for BVB this season.

And although Toljan admits to frustration over the fact that he wasn't given a chance, he understands why BVB coach Lucien Favre didn't want to make too many alterations to his successful team.

"I'm obviously disappointed that I never got a chance. The team did wery well and was extremely successful, so it was generally not a situation for frequent changes," Toljan said.

"[Favre] didn't promise me anything, but I had the feeling that I got a fair chance with him, even though I had to wait until the right situation would come. He told me that he didn't write me off, but I had to wait for my chance," he added.

Toljan, 24, has made 11 appearances for Celtic this season.
