Official: Hoffenheim bring in Michael Esser

Michael Esser has left Hannover 96 to join Hoffenheim
Hoffenheim have announced the signing of Michael Esser from Hannover 96 on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old has put pen to paper on a short-team deal until the end of the season and will compete with Philipp Pentke for a spot in the line-up, with the club's first-choice goalkeeper, Oliver Baumann, set to be out with an injury for a number of weeks.

"With this move, we are responding to a very challenging situation in the goalkeeper position and have found an ideal solution in Michael," Hoffenheim chief Alexander Rosen said in a statement.

Esser was Hannover's number one goalkeeper in the 2018/19 season, but has been limited to just one appearance following the club's relegation to the 2. Bundesliga.
