Heiko Herrlich seen as favorite to take over as Augsburg coach

Former Bayer Leverkusen coach Heiko Herrlich is the top candidate to take over from Martin Schmidt as Augsburg coach.
Heiko Herrlich is considered the most likely candidate for the vacant job as Augsburg coach, according to reports from Kicker and Bild.

Augsburg are set to announce a new coach following the dismissal of Martin Schmidt on Monday.

Herrlich could be presented as new the club's new coach as early as at a press conference on Tuesday, as per the reports.

The 48-year-old worked as coach for Bayer Leverkusen from the summer of 2017 until December 2018.

Markus Weinzierl and Manuel Baum have been linked with the job as well.
