BVB chief Hans-Joachim Watzke: German football is in its biggest crisis ever

BVB chief Hans-Joachim Watzke believes German football 'is in the biggest crisis in its history'.
Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has called for solidarity amid the coronavirus outbreak, which in his opinion has left German football 'in the biggest crisis in its history'.

The German Football League (DFL) has proposed suspension of Bundesliga games until at least April 2. And in case the remaining nine games of the season aren't completed, the Bundesliga could lose €700 million, as per Sport1.

"The DFL Executive Committee has made a decision that must be respected – regardless of the fact that there were certainly other ways to go about it. We must all stand in solidarity with one another on this and discuss the relevant recommendations on Monday," Watzke said in a statement on Borussia Dortmund's website and added:

"Nonetheless, the fact remains – regardless of the decision that is reached on Monday – that German professional football is in the biggest crisis in its history. It is to be hoped that the Bundesliga clubs have built up enough reserves over the past few years to get them through this crisis. Based on the current information, the prospect of Borussia Dortmund being in existential danger can be ruled out," he added.
