It has been widely reported that there is a €35 million release clause in Benjamin Pavard's contract with VfB Stuttgart that will apply in 2019.

But according to both Süddeutsche Zeitung and Bild, the clause will not apply if VfB Stuttgart manage to qualify for the Champions League. In that case, a transfer fee can freely be negotitated.

At Stuttgart, however, it's not considered a likely outcome of the coming season. According to the club, the exception to the clause has been inserted because all eventualities are incorporated in contract.

Bild has previously reported that Bayern are set to trigger the €35 million clause next summer and sign Pavard. Reportedly, the French World Cup winner has already agreed to make the move.
