Weghorst frustrated with another draw: "If we were a top team, we would have won this match"
A 2-2 draw against 1. FC Köln leaves Oliver Glasner's Wolves undefeated through ten rounds of Bundesliga play. Lead striker Wout Weghorst nevertheless expressed his frustration in a post-match interview.
Dutch striker Wout Weghorst tallied once again in his side's most recent fixture, extending a scoring streak of to four consecutive matches and bringing his season's total to an impressive seven goals.
The center-forward still appeared agitated and disgruntled before the Sky microphones after the full-time whistle.
"The last 20 minutes of the match were dead," the 28-year-old told his interviewer, "I don't understand that. If we were a top team, we would have won this match. We didn't do that."
Weghorst touched on the some of the team's defensive issues, but also did not spare himself criticism. He acknowledged that he likely should have scored on an early chance in the 11th minute. He noted that the manner in which he ultimately atoned for the miss by equalizing in the 47th meant "too little".
Wolfsburg currently occupy fifth place in the table, but have drawn two more fixtures than they've drawn. The remaining opponents before the 2020/21 campaign's abridged winter break--Frankfurt, Bayern, and Stuttgart--hardly count as an easy slate.
