Confirmed: Mainz snatch up Robert Glatzel for first top-tier job
Twenty-seven-year-old striker Robert Glatzel returns home to Germany to play for his first top-tier Bundesliga club.
FSV Mainz 05 have their lead striker to replace Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Former 1860 München, SV Heimstetten, SV Wacker burghausen, Heidenheim, and Kaiserslautern center-forward will be playing in the Bundesrepublik for the duration of the season. Glatzel scored a total of 51 goals in Germany's lower leagues. He tallied 11 times and racked up two assists in 58 competitive appearances on the isle.
"At Mainz, I now have the chance to play in the Bundesliga and compete with the best," Glatzel noted in a statement posted on the club's website, "I'm really looking forward to that. I'll give everything I have for the fight to stay in the league."
The loan arrangement will expire at the end of the season. The club did not disclose whether there exists a purchase clause in the contract.
