Confirmed: Mainz snatch up Robert Glatzel for first top-tier job

Twenty-seven-year-old striker Robert Glatzel returns home to Germany to play for his first top-tier Bundesliga club.

Former 1860 München, SV Heimstetten, SV Wacker burghausen, Heidenheim, and Kaiserslautern center-forward will be playing in the Bundesrepublik for the duration of the season. The Munich native returns home after having spent last two seasons playing for Welsh club Cardiff City in the EFL Championship

Glatzel scored a total of 51 goals in Germany's lower leagues. He tallied 11 times and racked up two assists in 58 competitive appearances on the isle. 

"At Mainz, I now have the chance to play in the Bundesliga and compete with the best," Glatzel noted in a statement posted on the club's website, "I'm really looking forward to that. I'll give everything I have for the fight to stay in the league."

The loan arrangement will expire at the end of the season. The club did not disclose whether there exists a purchase clause in the contract.
