Robert Lewandowski bags hat-trick as Bayern shake off early setback to beat Dortmund

Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick as Bayern München bounced back from an early deficit to defeat Borussia Dortmund 4-2.
Bayern München fought back from an early two-goal deficit to beat Borussia Dortmund 4-2 in 'Der Klassiker' at Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Dortmund got the perfect start to the game, with Erling Haaland opening the scoring after just two minutes. The highly-rated Norwegian striker was given space to shoot from the edge of the penalty area and beat Manuel Neuer with a low effort that took a slight deflection off Jerome Boateng on the way in.

Haaland was on target again seven minutes later, rounding off a great passing move from close range after Thorgan Hazard squared the ball across goal.

As the first half progressed, Bayern grew into the game and managed to pull one back in the 26th minute. Leroy Sané received the ball on the right, took a touch past Nico Schulz and found Robert Lewandowski, who slotted home at the back post.

Bayern continued their pressure and were rewarded for their efforts shortly before the break when Robert Lewandowski grabbed his second from the penalty spot after Mahmoud Dahoud brought down Kingsley Coman.

Thorgan Hazard came close to restoring Dortmund's lead a few minutes into the second half, but his volley hit the side-netting.

Shortly after, Marwin Hitz struggled to hold on to a long-range effort from Joshua Kimmich. Kingsley Coman was on to it, but the BVB goalkeeper recovered to keep the ball out.

With a handful of minutes remaining of a second half that saw Erling Haaland and Jerome Boateng forced off with injuries, Leon Goretzka completed the comeback for Bayern, beating Marwin Hitz with a shot from the edge of the area.

Bayern weren't finished yet, though, and Lewandowski grabbed his third just before the final whistle, smashing the ball past Hitz to make it 4-2.

With the win, Bayern took back the top spot in the Bundesliga from RB Leipzig, with the reigning German champions now two points clear at the top of the table. Dortmund, meanwhile, drop to sixth.
