Rudi Völler declares new league as 'a crime against football'
The Bayer Leverkusen executive resolved to some strong words in light of a plan for the new league.
The European Super League plan has already drawn backlash from some of the most prominent personalities in the sport.
Now Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director & former 1990 World Cup winner Rudi Völler has termed the proceedings as a ‘crime against football’.
Twelve elite clubs from England, Spain & Italy have sparked an outburst amnogst the football community, among which, thankfully, are no German clubs – with Borussia Dortmund already releasing a statement rejecting the oligarch competition.
Bayern Munich’s stance is yet to be revealed.
Speaking to Sport BILD, Voller exclaimed the plans for such a competition as outrageous.
“A closed society is a crime against football,” he said.
Völler then pinpointed Liverpool’s hand in the plan and praised the German clubs for not participating.
He said: "For a club where the fans sing 'You'll never walk alone', that's shameful. "The fact that Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are not participating shows that they have backbone."
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Inter Milan, AC Milan & Juventus are the twelve founding clubs of the league.
