Glasner and Schäfer imply announcement on future to come soon, Weghorst emotional over Dutch team call-up

VfL Wolfsburg trainer Oliver Glasner and club sporting director Marcel Schäfer deflected questions about the coach's future with the club after clinching Champions League with a 2-2 draw vs. Leipzig.

The statements given nevertheless suggested that an announcement would come next week.

Meanwhile, an emotional Wout Weghorst reflected on the joy of a successful season and his nomination for Holland's Euro 2020 provisional squad.
Champions League football gets set to return to Germany's "Autostadt" for the first time in five years. This served as quite the accomplishment given that the team failed to reach the group stage of the Europa League this year after a last-minute founder during the final qualifying match.

"After the tough blow in Athens, it's been a great season," head-coach Oliver Glasner said, reflecting on the European club competition loss, "We played consistently at a high level and the players have gelled as a unit. We absolutely have the right characters."

Glasner gave no clue as to whether he would be around to join these "characters" in the UCL next season. Most in German footballing circles consider the 46-year-old's departure to be certain. Both the Austrian gaffer and sporting director Marcel Schäfer appeared to suggest that confirmation would come in a week.

"I'm so proud to be standing here," Glasner said, "Today is party time. At the moment I have no thoughts for my situation. We're going to have a party all by ourselves in a bubble. Then comes the last game of the season and [afterward] we'll have plenty of time to talk about me."

"I will not talk about it," Schäfer bluntly stated, "I always handle such matters discreetly."

Top boss Jörg Schmadtke, who has publicly acknowledged that his relationship with Glasner isn't the easiest, was not on hand to comment to the Sky microphones. Reporters did catch lead-striker Wout Weghorst for some thoughts for his call up to Frank de Boer's preliminary 34-man-roster for the coming Euros.

The often overlooked 28-year-old's voice quivered when asked about the opportunity to earn his fifth cap for country.

"I'm very happy about it," he said with a faltering voice tone and a reflective look into the Wolfsburg night sky, "It's one more game, a four day break, and then hopefully it [football] will continue."
