For at least one of the four Bundesliga professionals still out on international duty with the United States Men's National team, this summer's continental championship is not an option. Eighteen-year-old Giovanni Reyna will be expected to report back to Germany at or around July 1st for an early start to training camp under new head-coach Marco Rose.

This was confirmed by current player licensing head and future club sporting director Sebastian Kehl in an interview with the Ruhrnachrichten. Kehl revealed the club might allow Reyna some extra regeneration time after he completes his tour of duty with Gregg Berhalter's team in the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League Finals, but firmly told the newspaper "Gio won't play in the [CONCACAF] Gold Cup."

The news was not entirely unexpected. Depending on when in the summer the Gold Cup is held, the USSF often fields a youth prospect team to compete in the tournament. When the event is held in late summer, in this case July 10th to August 1st, US internationals playing for European clubs are generally not called up as it would conflict with their training camps.

It can likely be assumed that John Anthony Brooks (VfL Wolfsburg), Josh Sargent (SV Werder Bremen), and Tyler Adams (RB Leipzig) will also be unavailable for, at least, the latter stages of the tournament. Chris Richards (TSG Hoffenheim), Julian Green (SpVgg Greuther Fürth), Matthew Hoppe (FC Schalke), and Justin Che (FC Bayern II) are already off the squad after call ups for Sunday's friendly against Switzerland.
