Bo Svensson and the Bundesliga Pfälzer may have a direct replacement for the departed Robin Quaison lined up. Transfermarkt.de confirms a report originating from Swiss news portal Nau.ch linking striker/attacking winger Christian Fassnacht with the Nullfünfter. The 27-year-old has spent the last four years playing at Young Boys Basel under current Bundesliga coaches Adi Hütter and Gerardo Seoane.

The Rheinhessen have already signed Fassnacht's fellow Swiss international Silvan Widmer from FC Basel this summer. The right fullback/wingback appears a flexible enough fit to work inside Svensson's basic tactical system. A player such as Fassnacht would, who can work either as a lead-striker or on the wings, would appear similarly useful in the constellation Mainz's trainer seems partial to.

Transfermarkt cites its own sources to claim that FSV sporting director Martin Schmidt remains especially enamored with the player. Fassnacht, who's name ironically bears a resemblance to the word for the night of carnival's onset in the local Pfalz dialect, has put up productive goal-scoring numbers over the last five years in the Swiss Alpo Super League. In terms of goal-scoring, he's only failed to crack double digits once.
