Bielefeld and St. Pauli finalize Marcel Hartel transfer

The recently finalized transfer of one-rime midfield mainstay Marcel Hartel brings €350,000 into the coffers of Arminia Bielefeld, according to reports from Sport Bild.
Twenty-five-year-old German midfielder Marcel Hartel has already played an important role in two promotion campaigns. After helping FC Union Berlin make it to the top flight in 2018/19 and then assisting Bielefeld one year later, the Köln native will now get a third chance to help a 2. Bundesliga side reach the Bundesliga.

A transfer to Hamburg's St. Pauli was confirmed on Tuesday. Hartel departs North Rhine-Westphalia after making 22 appearances in the top flight last season. He became expendable after the DSC acquired new upgrades such as Alessandro Schöpf, Sebastian Vasiliadis, and (most recently) Patrik Wimmer at Robin Hack at his position.

"We thank Marcel for two successful years in the Arminia jersey," DSC sporting director Samir Arabi said in a statement, "His name shall forever be associated with our promotion campaign. We wish him all the very best in his personal and professional life."

Arabi's counterpart at St. Pauli made clear that Harcel would play an important role at his new club.

"With Marcel Hartel, we get a flexible, attack-minded, and strong running midfielder," sporting director Andreas Bornemann noted, "he can be used in our system in several positions."

Head-coach Timo Schultz added that Hartel would "strengthen us immediately". Hartel himself said he looked forward to playing for the club's "outstanding fans".
