Kerem Demirbay: 'It could have gone either way'
Kerem Demirbay couldn't hide his disappointment after Bayer Leverkusen's 3-4 defeat against Borussia Dortmund.
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kerem Demirbay felt his side's clash with Borussia Dortmund could have gone either way.
'Die Werkself' took the lead three times, but ultimately fell to a 3-4 defeat at BayArena.
"It was a top-level game that could have gone either way. The fact that we lost is bitter," Demirbay told reporters after the game.
"Small things make the difference, and today it was the referee's penalty decision," added Demirbay, referring to Erling Haaland's winner, which was scored from the penalty spot after Odilon Kossounou was penalized for raising an arm to Marco Reus' face.
"Unfortunately, the 3-4 result is what counts in the end."
Marco Reus, who won the penalty for Dortmund, also had his say on the incident.
"It hurt when it happened, and it still does," the BVB captain said.
"What else should I do? He hit me, I noticed it, it hurt, and that's why I went down."
