Baumgart supportive of Czichos after own-goal: "I don't see a mistake there."

In his post match interview, Köln trainer Steffen Baumgart chalked up the late-own goal that prevented his team from leaving Breisgau with all three points to simple bad luck.

Most all of the Domstädter struck a positive tone when reflecting upon their performance.

After having conceded five goals to Freiburg during last year's relegation-scare campaign, the 1. FC Köln players found themselves in no mood to let their heads hang low after a 1-1 draw at the Schwarzwaldstadion.

"A point is a point," defender Jore Meré remarked afterwards, "It was a good game against a very good opponent. It's always good to pocket a point in such a case. It's a pity we didn't win, but we'll head back to Köln with our heads held high."

Midfielder Dejan Ljubicic concurred.

"We didn't lose and that was important," the new Austrian arrival who surprised many by committing to die embattled Geißböcke last spring remarked, "It's a shame that we didn't take all three points today, but Freiburg didn't play bad football in the second half and in the end it's a deserved draw."

Both head-coach Steffen Baumgart and captain Jonas Hector conveyed only minor criticisms of the team afterward. Moreover, they echoed one another by saying that they were "going home satisfied".

When it came to Rafael Czichos' own-goal in the 89th, Baumgart remained supportive of his central defender.

"I don't see any mistake there," Baumgart said of the play, "He tries to block the ball and it goes in up top. If we were to label this a mistake, I'd find it a bit harsh."
