Germany were rocked by an injury blow in their 2-1 win over Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday, as Nico Schlotterbeck was forced off at half-time.

According to Sky Germany and Bild, it's now clear that the Borussia Dortmund defender will miss the rest of the World Cup.

The 26-year-old has suffered a ligament tear in his left ankle and could be out for around two months.

Antonio Rüdiger came on for Schlotterbeck against Côte d’Ivoire and is now expected to start the rest of Germany’s matches at the World Cup alongside Jonathan Tah at the back.

Having already secured first place in Group E, Germany face Ecuador in their final group-stage game on Thursday.
