After months of uncertainty over Nico Schlotterbeck's future, the player and Borussia Dortmund have agreed to make a final decision on whether he will stay around the international break in mid-March, according to Sport Bild.

With Schlotterbeck’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2027, Dortmund are doing everything they can to convince their defensive leader to sign a new long-term deal.

According to reports, the Black and Yellows are willing to raise his salary to €14 million per year and include a €50–60 million release clause for the summer of 2027 if he agrees to extend.

Should Schlotterbeck decide against staying, Real Madrid appear to be the most likely destination. The Spanish giants are looking to sign two new center-backs this summer and are reportedly seeking one who is left-footed, like Schlotterbeck.

However, uncertainty over the coaching situation at Real Madrid, where Alvaro Arbeloa is currently in charge on an interim basis, could complicate a potential move for the German international.
