Stuttgart confirm Dias' sale to Famalicão

Gil Dias' permanent departure from VfB Stuttgart was confirmed yesterday. 

After Legia Warsaw declined to exercise the purchase option embedded in his loan deal, 27-year-old Portuguese winger Gil Dias remained without prospects at his German parent club of VfB Stuttgart. On Tuesday, the Swabians confirmed that Dias had been sold to Futebol Clube de Famalicão in his native Portugal. Terms of the transfer were not divulged. Dias maintained an estimated market worth of €900,000 in the latest transfermarkt update.

Dias joined Stuttgart on a €1 million transfer during the January 2023 window, notching one league goal and one Pokal tally in eight total appearances for the Swabians under trainer Bruno Labbadia. Sebastian Hoeneß nevertheless had no use for the former Benfica man and last summer's loan was organized after Hoeneß declined to utilize him in summer training camp.

Dias ended up not registering any scorer points in 24 appearances for Warsaw. Stuttgart issued a statement wishing the player well on his social media feed. Dias returns to the club he once represented on loan from Benfica during the 2020/21 campaign. His new contract runs through 2027.
