"In the end we got punished" - Harry Kane reacts to Aston Villa defeat

After Wednesday night's disappointment, Harry Kane faced the media and shared his thoughts after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League.

Speaking to UEFA.com at full-time, Harry Kane spoke about the difficulties Bayern Munich faced on a disappointing night against Aston Villa.

"It was a tough night, I thought for large portions of the game we controlled it well. Of course in the second-half there were times on the counterattack where we didn't sweep up as well as a team. We didn't counter-press as well as we wanted to and in the end we got punished," the Englishman said.

Kane continued by commenting on the fine form of Emiliano Martinez in the Aston Villa goal. The Argentine shot-stopper made several remarkable saves as the Birmingham-based club hung on for a famous victory.

"It's a tough game, it's one of those where the keeper has had a fantastic game for them [Villa]. We could've been out there another twenty minutes and the ball would not have gone in the net. A tough defeat but we move on," Kane added.

On where it went wrong, the 31-year-old talisman leading the line for the Bavarian giants felt their decision making in the final third cost them dearly.

"We just lacked that final pass or finish in their box. You know, there was times in the first-half where we had chances to play that final ball across. In the second-half we went 1-0 down and we had a few chances where [Emiliano Martinez] made some good saves," said Kane.

As for the learning curve, Kane believes that Vincent Kompany's side are performing perfectly in some scenarios of their game but need time to work on other facets.

"We have to learn from it, we have to watch it back and really process it all. From our point of view there were some good stuff and some stuff we need to work on. But its not a time to panic, we have a big game on Sunday so we'll recover and look forward to that," he concluded.

Bayern Munich will now redirect their attention to domestic action, where a highly anticipated meeting against Eintracht Frankfurt pencilled for Sunday afternoon. They currently lead the Bundesliga by a solitary point with Dino Toppmöller's Adlers in second place.
