Tuchel blames Kim for both goals conceded against Real Madrid
Kim Min-jae | FC Bayern München |
In the absence of the injured Matthijs de Ligt, Kim Minjae made a rare start at centre-back for Bayern Munich in Tuesday's 2-2 Champions League semifinal draw with Real Madrid.
On a night of misfortune for the South Korean defender, the ball was played in behind him for Real's first goal and he later conceded the penalty that led to the visitors' second.
After the game, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel acknowledged that Kim's mistakes led to Real's two goals.
"He was too 'greedy' twice. For the first goal he went too early against Vinicius and was caught out by Toni Kroos' pass. He speculated and was too aggressive," Tuchel told reporters after the game (via @iMiaSanMia).
"Unfortunately, the second goal was another mistake. We were 5 against 2, we had the numbers. There was no need to defend so aggressively against Rodrygo. The moment Eric [Dier] wanted to help, [Kim] brought [Rodrygo] down. Unfortunately, with their quality, these mistakes are punished. But it happens. We have to move on."
Bayern captain Manuel Neuer came to his teammate's defense, telling Sport1:
“We talked about it in the dressing room. Mistakes happen, that's part of football. That doesn't mean he'll be bad in the next games. It wasn't all bad today - he played very well in parts. But maybe in some crucial moments he didn't make the right decisions, which is always what can happen in football," Neuer said.
