A report emerging from Kicker.de suggests that Hamburger SV midfielder Fábio Vieira's injury is not as bad as first feared.

In a 98th-minute duel for the ball with 1.FC Union Berlin's Leopold Querfeld, the Portuguese star refused to hold back.

Although red carded for catching Querfeld with a raised boot, Vieira writhed in pain as he came off worse in the collision during the 0-0 draw.

However, he was given the all-clear and returned to Hamburg with his teammates without requiring an examination at hospital.

Attention turns to the DFB Sports Tribunal where they will discover the length of his suspension, but Deniz Aytekin believes it will be short.

“We will, of course, note that he tried to pull back,” noted referee Aytekin. While coach Merlin Polzin is also counting on this reasoning.

“I firmly believe that the dynamics of the incident will be reassessed. That we can see how Fabio pulled back.

“For me, it's important that it's clarified what the duel really looked like. I have complete confidence in the people involved,” Polzin said.
