Holstein Kiel climbed to the relegation playoff spot after a 3-2 win over Bochum on Sunday afternoon. Uwe Rösler’s side will stay in tenth place with Düsseldorf also losing at home to Hertha BSC.

On his first start since returning from an injury, Steven Skrzybski provided the assist for Kasper Davidsen’s second goal in as many games. The hosts responded immediately with Philipp Hofmann scoring in back-to-back home games.

However, Kiel retook the lead on the stroke of half-time through Phil Harres. Despite their captain Matus Bero being sent off with two bookings in the space of ten minutes, Bochum’s experienced duo Maximilian Wittek and Hofmann combined for the eighth goal of the season by the latter.

But there was no response from the ten-man Bochum for Jonas Therkelsen’s strike five minutes later. Umut Tohumcu, who came on after another injury concern for Skrzybski, was also sent off in the 99th minute after his second yellow card.
