German giants FC Bayern München are apparently keeping their options open with regard to keeper Alexander Nübel. The 27-year-old signed a contract extension with his parent club yesterday. The new deal sees the net-minder's loan with Stuttgart extended for an additional two seasons. Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano nevertheless reports that Max Eberl and the Bayern administrative team built an early recall option into the deal.

Romano reports that Bayern retain the right to recall Nübel at the end of next season. Current FCB and Germany #1 Manuel Neuer's contract with the record champions only runs through the end of the 2024/25 campaign. Now 38-years-of-age and struggling with persistent injury issues, Bayern must begin preparing for the inevitable day on which the German footballing legend can no longer hold his slot between the sticks.

Flexibility with respect to the Nübel situation ensures that Bayern maintain three options at the end of next season. Neuer, provided he can maintain form and fitness, might extend for an additional year. Nübel's audition period with Stuttgart enables Bayern to observe whether their once-certain Newer-replacement can perform at Champions League level. Current FCB prospect Daniel Peretz, meanwhile, can also receive some starts next year.
