Julian Brandt has entered the final year of his Borussia Dortmund contract, and it remains unclear whether it will be extended.

“The contract is running out, but the future is open,” Dortmund managing director for sport Lars Ricken told Sky on Sunday evening.

“We’re watching how the season unfolds. He’s working his way out of a rough patch, and I can also imagine a contract extension if his performances are right.”

Brandt himself commented on his contract situation back in June.

"We can all chat every two weeks, but the answer will always be pretty much the same," he told Sky.

"The situation regarding my contract is clear to me and certainly also to the club. But everything is super relaxed."

The midfielder started on the bench for Dortmund’s Bundesliga opener against St. Pauli, but came on at half-time and scored a brilliant goal in the 3-3 draw.
