A minor shake up in the squad roles within the Borussia Dortmund team is expected for the upcoming season, BILD reports.

Prior to the 2024-25 campaign, Julian Brandt was named vice-captain of BVB - a year later, it's clear that the armband hindered him.

The German's performances took a blow, with the player himself admitting “it [the armband] did me more harm than good".

However, the latter half of the 29-year-old's season marginally improved, chipping in with 22 goal contributions in 50 competitive games.

As a result, Brandt is expected to resign from his position so he can fully focus on his own performances in the new season.

Meanwhile, head coach Niko Kovač is said to remain convinced that Brandt can turn things around in the new season.

Now it's up to the Bremen native, with a little less responsibility on his shoulders, to show that his coach was right.
