Towards the end of the transfer window on Tuesday, Sky Germany reported that Sunderland had made an offer for Augsburg's Alexis Claude-Maurice.

Bild has now backed up Sky's report, but states that the move failed to materialise because Sunderland's bid came “far too late”.

A move for Claude-Maurice is not ruled out, though, with the transfer window still open in a number of leagues.

With the 28-year-old in the final year of his contract, now could be a good time for Augsburg to cash in on him.

The attacker joined Augsburg from Nice on a free transfer in 2024.
