After Sven Ulreich was caught on camera insulting Bayer Leverkusen managing director for sport Simon Rolfes during Saturday's match at the Allianz Arena, the German Football League (DFL) has decided to hand the Bayern Munich goalkeeper a one-match ban and a €20,000 fine.

The decision has come under fire from Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl, who believes it's too drastic.

"I think it's too harsh," Eberl told DAZN after Bayern's 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the Champions League on Wednesday.

"There was an incident five years ago with Kevin de Bruyne, who verbally abused a ball boy, and he only got a fine. I think a fine and a one-match ban for ‘Ulle’ is excessive.

“We won't leave Ulle alone, we'll get through this together.”

Ulreich will miss Bayern's Bundesliga clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.

Rolfes has confirmed that Ulreich has apologized to him.
