Markus Weinzierl will step down as Bayern Munich’s campus sporting director at the end of the season, the German champions announced on Friday.

The 51-year-old’s contract expires this summer and will not be renewed, with both parties agreeing to part ways by mutual consent.

“Markus drove many topics forward during his time at our academy and played a special role in ensuring that we celebrated more first-team debuts this season than ever before,” said FC Bayern’s director of youth development, Jochen Sauer.

“I would like to thank him for the constructive and harmonious cooperation and wish him all the best for his personal and professional future.”

Weinzierl explained that he would like to return to coaching, having previously been in the dugout at 1. FC Nürnberg, FC Augsburg, VfB Stuttgart, Schalke 04 and Jahn Regensburg.

“We have mutually decided not to extend my expiring contract. It has been a very successful and enjoyable time, but I would like to work again as a head coach in professional football. I take a lot with me from my two years at FC Bayern Munich for my personal and professional future," he said.

“I would like to sincerely thank all the staff at the Campus who, through their work, made it possible for Vincent Kompany to find so many talents from the youth ranks for his first-team squad. Ten players making their professional debuts in one year, led by Lennart Karl, make the 2025/26 season a sensational success for the Campus. I look forward to following our talents’ further development from afar.”
