Hamburger SV is working hard behind the scenes to remove Sebastian Schonlau from their payroll.

BILD reports that the newly promoted Bundesliga club has made the 31-year-old an offer to terminate his contract.

For Schonlau, whose contract expires next summer, it remains to be seen whether the central defender will accept the offer.

The former captain originally wanted to make it at HSV, but the Warburg native plays no role in coach Merlin Polzin's plans.

Since arriving from SC Paderborn in 2021, Schonlau has made over 115 appearances for the Hanseatic club in all competitions.

According to the tabloid, Schonlau alongside Silvan Hefti, Bakery Jatta and Guilherme Ramos are also expected to leave the club.
