Mainz 05 have extended the contract of French wing-back Anthony Caci, who was due to become a free agent in the summer.

The new deal keeps him at the club until 2028.

“Anthony Caci has developed into an absolute key player and fan favorite at our club,” said Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert.

"During this time, he has experienced all the highs and lows with us and has always been there to help his team when it mattered most. His composure on the ball, understanding of the game, and excellent defensive development make him the ideal choice for our flank. That he has extended his contract early at this stage is a great sign for the club, the team, and the fans."

Caci, currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, added:

"For me, extending my contract here at Mainz 05 is the best decision – I feel incredibly comfortable here, my family lives nearby and comes to every game. It was also important for me to extend at this stage to show how much the club and the fans mean to me. I feel the trust of the coach and the team every day, and the fans are world-class. That motivates me immensely, and I work hard every day to get back on the pitch soon and help the team, so we can give everything for our fans and achieve a turnaround together."
