Bayern crash out of DFB-Pokal after humiliating defeat against Gladbach

Borussia Mönchengladbach sensationally thrashed Bayern München 5-0 at Borussia-Park in the second round of the DFB-Pokal.
German record champions Bayern München crashed out of the DFB-Pokal after suffering a shock second-round 5-0 defeat at the hands of Borussia Mönchengladbach at Borussia-Park on Wednesday evening.

The home side were off to the perfect start, striking first blood two minutes in through Mané Koné, who struck the ball past Manuel Neuer from within the box to score his first goal in a Gladbach shirt.

Gladbach kept creating opportunities against a shell-shocked Bayern side and deservedly went 2-0 up in the 15th minute as Ramy Bensebaini scored after being picked out in the box by Jonas Hofmann.

Bensebaini was on target again six minutes later, sending the ball past Manuel Neuer from the penalty spot after Lucas Hernandez was adjudged to have brought down Breel Embolo in the box.

Bayern's hopes of turning things around suffered another blow six minutes into the second half when Breel Embolo took advantage of a miscommunication between Bayern centre-backs Niklas Süle and Dayot Upamecano to make it 4-0.

The Swiss forward added another one seven minutes later to round off the show, steering the ball in via the post after he was played in behind.

Bayern created a handful of opportunities to get on the scoresheet during the remainder of the game, but failed to put the ball past Yann Sommer on an evening to forget for the Bavarians.
