Report: Bayern pressuring unvaccinated professionals with suspended wages

Rumors continue to run rampant about the Bayern quartet entering quarantine on Sunday evening.

Some sources suggest that Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, Eric-Maxim Choupo Moting, and Michael Cuisance may have been sent into isolation because they, like teammate Joshua Kimmich, are unvaccinated against the novel coronavirus.

This cannot be confirmed by any reliable sources at this time.

A reliable source at German footballing magazine Kicker can nevertheless confirm that Bayern has opted to take a stance against its unvaccinated professionals.

The official line from FC Bayern München remains that a group of four players were sent into quarantine because of potential contact with a positive coronavirus case. There is no independent corroboration of some rumors circulating around at this point that the players have been ordered to self-isolate because they are unvaccinated.

In article appearing of the website of German footballing magazine Kicker, one of the journal's longest serving editors-in-chief writes on the subject. Karlheinz Wild only notes in his article that the players are "suspected" of being unvaccinated.

Wild, who does have insider sources close to the club, does seem to strongly suggest that Bayern have more than one unvaccinated professional. The case of midfielder Joshua Kimmich is obviously well known. The German journalist writes that an unspecified number of "others" were informed last Thursday that they would not be paid wages if forced to quarantine.

According to Wild, the German record champions have been trying to persuade several of their unvaccinated professionals to get inoculated for several months. Dialogue having not produced the results they were hoping for, Bayern have now laid down the consequences.

German labor lawyer Christopher Schickhardt explains how the measure works in the article. Players like Niklas Süle and Josip Stanisic, who cannot train or play after being infected with the virus, will still be entitled to their wages under the rule.

Kimmich, on the other hand, a player not infected but subject to extra quarantine measures precisely because he was not vaccinated, doesn't have a right to his contractual wages if he is otherwise healthy and must isolate because of a personal choice.

Matters already get a bit murky when one considers the case of Serge Gnabry. The German national team winger has actually already recovered from infection, meaning that he doesn't need to get inoculated to qualify for "2G" under German law.

Again, it must be emphasized that no reputable news source--including Kicker--reports that Gnabry, Cuisance, Choupo Moting, and Musiala are actually unvaccinated.
