Seoane confirms Amiri as COVID positive ahead of weekend clash: "Not much more can happen."

By Peter Weis   @PeterVicey

A not entirely relaxed Bayer 04 Leverkusen trainer Gerardo Seaoane addressed his latest COVID case on Friday, but did supply some good news ahead of Saturday's home encounter against Union Berlin.
Gerardo Seoane.

Already missing central defenders Odilon Koussounou and Edmond Tapsoba to the Africa Cup of Nations, the head-coach of Germany's red company team also had to deal with further injury problems in central midfield and another COVID blow in his central defensive ranks.

The good news on Friday concerned the fact Ecuadorian Piero Hincapie, who from his COVID-induced quarantine earlier in the week, seemed to show no averse after affects and probably could start on Saturday.

That was the extent of the positive news that Seoane could reported one day prior to kickoff. In a case of absolutely rotten luck, central midfielder Nadiem Amiri tested positive for the virus on Friday. The German international actually recovered from a bout with the virus last January. After being fully vaccinated with a boosted, the 25-year-old somehow contracted it again and is showing light symptoms.

Charles Aranguiz and Julian Baumgartliner remain unavailable in central midfield. Exequiel Palacios is questionable for the weekend fixture with recurrent back problems.

"There's not much more than can happen," Seoane lamented when asked about his positional problem, "but, overall, those whom I do have seem mentally fresh."

The B04 trainer called upon his team to watch out for the "clear idea of football" that Berlin plays, also acknowledging that it might take "two or three matches" for his squad to reach top form.
