After 17 years as a professional footballer, Aaron Hunt has decided to hang up his boots.

"I'm calling it a day. I've decided that I'm not playing anymore," the 35-year-old told Bild.

Hunt has been unemployed since he left Hamburger SV, when his contract expired last summer.

"I have had a few offers since the summer. But in the end it didn't really fit. It makes no sense to wait another six months. The topic of professional football is closed for me."

Hunt played for Werder Bremen, Wolfsburg and Hamburger SV. He made a total of 304 Bundesliga appearances with 56 goals and 47 assists to his name.
