HSV will entertain Bayern Munich after successive goalless draws with Borussia Mönchengladbach and St. Pauli. While they wasted plenty of chances in last week’s home stalemate, Friday’s Hamburg derby was a tale of few goalscoring opportunities.

“We got off to a good start,” said Merlin Polzin after the game. “We controlled the game. St. Pauli were defending well, which didn’t make our task easier. But we need to be better at counters.

“Especially in tense games like this, we should have been more compelling. That annoys me, to be honest. In the second half, the game was more open. Overall, I’m not satisfied with a lot of little things, but we take this point.”

Substitute Rayan Philippe wasted the best counterattacking chance late in the game when he tried to assist with a trivela. HSV will host Bayern Munich in the Topspiel of matchday 20.
