The Bundesliga encounter between Heidenheim and Leipzig was anything but dull, with early controversies giving way to a decisive spell of attacking brilliance from the visitors.
The match at Voith-Arena got off to a dramatic start as Leipzig's Baumgartner saw a goal ruled out for offside, setting the tone for a high-intensity encounter. Leipzig then continued to unleash early waves of pressure that tested the hosts’ defence.
However, there were not many clear-cut chances in the first half, which ended goalless.
After the break, Ibrahimovic came close to breaking the deadlock, producing a good chance in the first minutes of the second half. Just minutes later, Diomande appeared to score his seventh goal of the season in the 50th minute, only for the effort to be chalked off for a marginal offside, leaving the scoreline at 0‑0.
Leipzig finally made their breakthrough in the 62nd minute: Ridle Baku drove down the flank and unleashed a powerful shot into the far corner, giving the visitors a 1‑0 lead. Heidenheim appeared rattled, and their situation worsened six minutes later: Nusa showed impressive dribbling inside the box and slotted the ball into the near post to double Leipzig’s advantage.
The visitors did not stop there. In the 70th minute, captain David Raum added a third goal, finding space in the penalty area and sending a thunderous shot under the crossbar into the net, leaving Heidenheim with a mountain to climb.
After 13 months out with injury, Benjamin Henrichs then made his comeback in the last few minutes of the game. A nice story to end a dramatic game, Leipzig were just too good for Heidenheim on the day. Final result: Heidenheim 0-3 RB Leipzig.
