Union heap more misery on Hertha with third successive derby win

Hertha BSC missed the opportunity to crawl out of the relegation zone as they succumbed to a 1-4 loss against bitter rivals Union Berlin at home.
Union Berlin beat local rivals Hertha BSC for the third time this season, winning 4-1 at the Olympiastadion on Saturday.

The guests were deservedly ahead at half-time thanks to Genki Haraguchi's opener, but Hertha got themselves back on level terms just after the break when Timo Baumgartl tried to clear the ball, but ended up putting it into his own net instead.

Union were quick to strike back and restore the lead, though, with Grischa Prömel heading the ball into the net four minutes later, and when Sheraldo Becker increased the lead with a clinical finish after 74 minutes, it was hard to see how Hertha were going to avoid a third straight derby defeat.

If there was any remaining doubt about which way the result was heading, it was ended with five minutes remaining as second-half substitute Sven Michel made it 4-1 with his first Union goal.

The result means Hertha remain 17th, on points with Arminia Bielefeld in the relegation play-off spot, while Union Berlin climb into seventh place.
