If Germany's main sporting tabloid is to be believed, it may be some time before a deal is concluded. According to Sport Bild, Ajax seeks upwards of €38 million for the 27-year-old. The Dutch side will be in no mood to compromise; not after losing key players Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui to Bayern München as well as head-coach Erik ten Hag to Manchester United.
Dortmund, meanwhile, have already spent a great deal of money this offseason. The acquisitions of Niklas Süle, Nico Schlotterbeck, Salih Özcan, Marcel Lotka, and Alexander Meyer. BVB outlays already total some €55 million; a very large sum for what remains a fan-owned club still hurting from COVID revenue losses.
The Dutch article notes that Haller is very much amenable to a return to the Bundesliga. Haller has reportedly turned down more lucrative offers from other clubs seeking his services. The Ivorian international scored 24 league goals whilst in Eintracht colors between 2017 and 2019.
