Gladbach updates: Reyna and Lacroix BMG topics

After surprisingly losing attacker Jonas Hofmann to Bayer 04 Leverkusen this week, Westphalia's Rheinische Post newspaper reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach are looking to land American phenol Giovanni Reyna on loan.

The Post also notes that - faced with potentially losing defender Ko Itakura to SSC Napoli - the foals are looking to perhaps raid VfL Wolfsburg's overstocked central defensive corps and pick up Maxence Lacroix.
After the sensational transfer out of German national team attacker Jonas Hofmann this week, Borussia Mönchengladbach find themselves scrambling for help in attack. At least one source puts forth the reasonable enough rumor that Gladbach could take on Borussia Dortmund's Giovanni Reyna on loan.

The American is widely considered to be expendable by the BMG's Westphalian neighbors. Dortmund could be persuaded to loan the young talent out - even to a competitor - rather than waive their rights to him entirely. Reyna himself would presumably be amenable to a move that offers him better playing prospects and a chance to work with friend and USMNT colleague Joe Scally.

The Reyna rumor surfaced in the weekend edition of NRW's Rheinische Post newspaper. The same source also claims that Nils Schmadtke, who recently joined the Gladbach front office from Wolfsburg, may be working on potentially acquiring French VfL defender Maxence Lacroix. Just as is the case with Reyna, an outright purchase isn't financially viable and a loan would be the preferred channel.

Gladbach may soon find themselves in need of some immediate assistance in central defense as well. With Napoli defender Kim-Min Jae set to join Bayern (virtually all German sources consider the transfer a done deal at this point), the Serie A champions are widely rumored to be targeting Ko Itakura as their preferred replacement. Nico Elvedi is also rumored to be on the way out, meaning Gladbach potentially need two new starters.
