Wirtz insists his future at Leverkusen doesn't depend on Xabi Alonso
Asked if he will leave Bayer Leverkusen if Xabi Alonso moves on this summer, Florian Wirtz says his path isn't tied to the Spaniard's.
Florian Wirtz has insisted that his future at Bayer Leverkusen does not depend on Xabi Alonso.
Asked if he will leave Leverkusen if his coach decides to move on in the summer, Wirtz told Der Spiegel:
"It's very important to me that I have such a good relationship with him. But of course we decide our future independently. I don't tie my path to his, no.
"I really don't know what the coach is going to do. And as for my future: My focus these days is on the national team. And after that, I still have a lot of plans with Bayer Leverkusen."
20-year-old Wirtz is contracted to Leverkusen until 2027.
