Matthias Ginter has been named Germany Player of the Year 2019 by fans of the national team, the German Football Association has announced.

The Gladbach centre-back picked up 37% of the votes cast by members of the national team fan club and won the award ahead of Serge Gnabry (28,3% of the votes) and Joshua Kimmich (8,4% of the votes).

"I didn't expect this. Many others, such as Serge Gnabry, Toni Kroos and Joshua Kimmich, did very well for the national team last year. But, of course, I'm really happy that so many spectators and fans voted for me. It's a huge honor," Ginter said.

Ginter's back-heel flick goal against Belarus on November 18 was recently voted Goal of the Year 2019 by the fans of 'Die Mannschaft'.
