Kevin Stöger has confirmed to Sport Bild that he isn’t looking for a January transfer. The midfielder wants to stay at Borussia Mönchengladbach despite a disappointing first half of the season with the Foals.
“I’m staying with Borussia,” confirmed Stöger about his decision. “Of course, I’m not satisfied with my season. But that doesn’t mean I’m thinking about a winter change.
“Of course, there have been inquiries, but I immediately said ‘No’. I want to stay here and return to top form. For me, the chapter of Gladbach is far from over," said Stöger about Augsburg's interest in a January move.
"I want to show Gladbach the real Kevin Stöger with my qualities of creating great opportunities, assists, and running behind the ball. In these statistics, I was always on top. And, I want to repeat that."
The 32-year-old also believes staying in Gladbach will not hurt his chances of making Austria’s squad for the World Cup. “I see it very differently. Gladbach is the biggest club I've played for in my career. I'm proud to be here. I want to return to my best performance again, and will hopefully get noticed by Ralf Rangnick.”
Stöger only started five league games in the Hinrunde. The central midfielder is closing in on his 200th Bundesliga appearance.
