With the Bundesliga finally returning from the winter break this Friday, it's time to take a fresh look at your Fantasy Bundesliga team.

The unlimited transfer window will be open until the start of Matchday 18, so you can make all the changes you want.

Below, we take a look at the options in defence.

Ismail Jakobs (FC Köln, 1.6M) has emerged as a regular starter since Markus Gisdol took over as Köln coach. Priced at just 1.6 million, the 20-year-old is an attractive option - especially considering he's playing as a left midfielder. Noah Katterbach (FC Köln, 1.6M) is another cheap way into the Köln team.

For a player costing just 2.4 million, Christopher Lenz (Union Berlin, 2.4M) generated a more than acceptable return in the first half of the season, racking up 108 points. His teammate Christopher Trimmel (Union Berlin, 9.1M) is a whole lot more expensive, but still deserves a mention since his 163 points make him the fifth highest-scoring defender in the game so far.

Håvard Nordtveit (Hoffenheim, 2.5M), Markus Suttner (Fortuna Düsseldorf, 2.9M), Marcel Tisserand (Wolfsburg, 3.7M) and Tin Jedvaj (Augsburg, 4.8M) are other low-budget defenders who are expected to start.

Dan-Axel Zagadou (Dortmund, 6.2M) looks set to be in the starting eleven if Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre keeps playing with a three-man defence and could offer good value for money at just 6.2 million.

Kevin Mbabu (Wolfsburg, 9.2M) fought his way into the Wolfsburg line-up towards the end of last year and should keep his place, with William having to settle for the bench. Wolfsburg have a nice run of fixtures coming up which makes Mbabu a particularly attractive option. You could also look at his teammate Jerome Roussillon (Wolfsburg, 12.5M). The French left-back had a really impressive 2018/19 season and will be looking to rediscover his top form after a disappointing first half of the 2019/20 campaign.

Jonathan Schmid (Freiburg, 9.9M) and Christian Günter (Freiburg, 12.7M) were among the highest-scoring defenders in the first half of the season and both look like solid picks, with Freiburg kicking off 2020 with an attractive fixture list.

Martin Hinteregger (Eintracht Frankfurt, 10.7M) also deserves a mention. The centre-back has been one of Frankfurt's bright spots this season and has shown how dangerous he is in front of goal, netting six times in the Bundesliga so far.

Finally, with Joshua Kimmich suspended on Matchday 18, Philipp Max (Augsburg, 12.8M) and Achraf Hakimi (Dortmund, 14M) look like the most attractive premium options. Max went into the winter break in particularly outstanding form, scoring four goals in his last two Bundesliga games of 2019.
