Martin Hinteregger has been earmarked to replace Makoto Hasebe as Eintracht Frankfurt captain at the end of the season, according to Sport Bild.

After being given the armband when long-term captain David Abraham left the club in January, 37-year-old Hasebe will pass on the responsibility to Hinteregger this summer, per the report.

It is further claimed that Hinteregger, 28, will be handed a new contract with significantly better terms, provided Eintracht qualify for the Champions League.

'Die Adler' currently sit fourth, two points clear of fifth-placed Borussia Dortmund, with nine games left to play this season.

Hinteregger's current deal with Frankfurt expires in 2024.
